I read an excellent article recently on compliance issues for small businesses. Though we don’t like to think of church as a business, the administrative side of church is business and we are subject to most of the same laws as other businesses. The article gave a sampling of federal laws affecting businesses. The list is shown below. Among them, churches are not subject to Federal Unemployment Tax. Some, like the National Labor Relations Act, are unlikely to affect you. However, before ignoring any of these laws, do a search to make sure you are operating within required guidelines. I commend the complete article to you at the end of the list of laws.
